Statement: My art is my essence. Lemon and Sunshine is alchemy.
Growing up in a conservative Mennonite home as the eldest daughter, my life was filled with work. Living a life without electricity really increases the amount of labor needed to support a family of 8. Hard work is what mattered, never beauty.
I coped with those endless hours of chores by escaping into my imagination. My hands were busy with the tasks, but my mind was free to think wonderful thoughts. I fell in love with my creative ideas and longed to be surrounded by ease, freedom, and beauty.
When I began to paint, I envisioned bringing my rich inner world to the material world. I absolutely loved everything I created but felt that creating beauty was a little too frivolous and maybe I should do more for the world than just paint, I am a nurse after all.
As I continued to paint; however, I began to learn more about myself and unlearn my parents' teachings. I had never been informed about the immense power of beauty and its ability to inspire great things. Literally everywhere people value beauty so highly because of its transformative capabilities! This realization made me grow even more deeply in love with my art, and the process it took to create each piece. Choosing to be an artist has been such a profound and spiritual experience for me. For this reason, I also teach and encourage others to create via my YouTube channel.
